Please include your Mac model, macOS version, VMForMac version and the guest operating system.
Which Macs does VMForMac run on?
Macs with Apple silicon (M1 or later) running macOS 14 or later. Intel Macs are not supported.
Where do I get Windows?
Windows is not included. Download the official Windows 11 ARM64 ISO from Microsoft. You need your own valid Windows license.
Where are my virtual machines stored?
Inside the app's own container on your Mac (under ~/Library/Containers). Virtual machines created with an older version of VMForMac can be brought in from within the app.
Windows has no network or the display looks wrong right after installation.
Windows does not include drivers for the virtual hardware. VMForMac installs the network and display drivers automatically during unattended setup, which needs an internet connection on your Mac.
Can I run x64 Windows apps?
Windows 11 on ARM runs x64 apps through Microsoft's built-in emulation. Compatibility and speed depend on the app, and 3D-heavy games may not work.
Can I take a snapshot or clone of a running VM?
No. Snapshots and clones are only available while the virtual machine is shut down.
Which open-source software does VMForMac use?
VMForMac includes open-source components such as QEMU, swtpm and EDK2. They are listed with their licenses in the app under Open Source Licenses. The source code of the GPL components is available at https://github.com/alicankuklaci/vmformac-qemu.
